IGC Aircraft
Our Aircraft
Our glider club currently owns and operates 5 aircraft,
4 gliders and 1 tow plane.
We have 2 two place gliders and 2 single seaters. Thus, waiting for a glider to
become available is seldom an issue.
Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee "C"
This workhorse has more than enough power to easily launch a fully loaded
two seat glider quickly and efficiently. This 'ex-crop duster' is a low
wing tail dragger powered by a six-cylinder engine.
More about flying the Pawnee
Schweizer SGS 1-26E
The Schweizer 1-26 is a very popular American glider built from 1954 to
1979. Its docile flight characteristics make it ideal for solo students
transitioning from the 2-33, while its agility and low stall speed allow
it to circle tightly in the core of thermals. Many IGC pilots have earned
their Silver Badge in the ship, and cross-country flights of over 100
miles have also been logged. Its low landing speed and effective
divebrakes make it very safe for off-field landings.
Kevin Ford, IGC member and FAA Certified Glider Instructor is the
1-26 Association Record Keeper, and 2005 1-26 Champion.
PZL-Swidnik PW-5 Smyk
The PW-5 glider is a winner of the
World Class Glider Competition, organized by Federation Aeronautique
International (FAI). The competition requirements were simple: Safe Design
coupled with Good Performance.
The design of the PW-5 glider was developed by a team of scientists and students
of the Technical University of Warsaw under the supervision of Roman Switkiewicz.
There were 42 designs from 20 countries submitted at the first stage of
the competition. Only 7 gliders reached the final stage (comparative tests) in
Oerlinghausen Gliding Center in Autumn 1992.
The production of the glider was placed in
WSK PZL-SWIDNIK S.A.. This factory has many years of experience in the
manufacture of gliders made of epoxy-glass composites. The PW-5 conforms to
the the JAR-22 requirements and additional FAI requirements.
Krosno
The Krosno is a tandem two place metal framed sailplane designed for cross country
training and areobatics. It has metal skin with fabric-covered control surfaces.

Schweizer SGS 2-33
The Schweizer 2-33 has been the
much-beloved introductory training glider in the United States for many
years. Instructors love the back seat in the summer, as it tends to be
drafty. Students love the 2-33 for its ruggedness, as even a really bad
landing usually won't damage it. Its airbrakes are moderately effective,
but due to its large cross-sectional area, sideslips are very effective
at increasing drag.
